Learner Agency

Students created their own learning intentions for their learning for their report writing - a powerful lesson where students were able to work out what they needed through. This is nothing new for these students (class) but it helped my target group understand what was required.
http://elearning.tki.org.nz/Teaching/Learner-agency :
  • Agency includes an awareness of the responsibility of ones own actions on the environment and on others. Every decision a learner makes, and action she or he takes, will impact on the thinking, behaviour or decisions of others – and vice versa.
  • Agency involves the initiative or self-regulation of the learner. Learners must have a belief that their behaviour and their approach to learning will make a difference for them in their learning context – in other words, a personal sense of agency.

Looking at a range of reports allowed students to discuss what reports are and where to find them.

How could reports be taught so all students are engaged. What learning experiences would get students engaged? What different ways could we engage these students? We have been so consumed with national standards and data driven teaching that we have lost the fun and enjoyment.

Writing reports should be fun and enjoyable - lets see where this photo takes us. Enjoy the moment!
